The Californian

The Californian is located in the Midway District adjacent to big box retail, medical office and educational facilities. Ground floor units are accessed from the sidewalk as a way to engage with, and repair the street fabric. Ground floor retail engages the street as well, but is also designed to accommodate resident services, in much the same way as a hotel lobby. A landscaped courtyard provides amenities and an internal focus away from the commercial neighbors. Careful design consideration was given to the City’s strict coastal height limit in order to achieve a three story building.
