When two families decided to go in on a vacation home together, Del Mar was their ideal location. But finding a home near the water that could be shared between two couples and their children was a challenge. By purchasing the neighborhood eyesore, they were able to create a space of their own that was open and flexible. The floor plan was inverted, placing the main living spaces and a master bedroom on the second floor to capture the ocean view over the neighboring homes. A wrap-around deck with large sliding glass doors blurs the line between indoor and outdoor living; it also allows the great room to expand with the number of people staying at the home. The first floor holds a second bedroom and a bunk room with several beds. Complete with an outdoor shower for rinsing off after a trip across the street to the beach, this is the perfect modern beach house.
